All mothers should be supported to initiate breastfeeding as soon as possible after birth, within the first hour after delivery.
Initiate breastfeeding within the first hour of birth to facilitate milk production, control bleeding of the mother and protect severity in case of infection.
Begin to breast feed immediately after delivery as this will help your baby develops suckling reflexes. Your baby gets colostrum (first yellow milk) which has several benefits like clearing the meconium (first black stool) and preventing yellowing of your baby’s skin.
Colostrum is the first immunization and protects your baby from illnesses such as allergies, and infections e.g. diarrhoea and respiratory infections.

This production was done by CBCC in partnership with Nutrition International (NI).
