How Might we Reimagine Education for Wisdom Development? Schmachtenberger, Vervaeke & McGilchrist

This is clip is excerpted from a longer conversation between Iain McGilchrist, John Vervaeke and Daniel Schmachtenberger, recorded at Merton College, Oxford, in September 2023. With no planned objective or agenda, the discussion sought to outline the cognitive and spiritual components of the metacrisis. The metacrisis is the total ecosystem of all global crises and the common underlying dynamics that generate catastrophic and existential risks.

I'm a technical founder of a startup currently interviewing researchers to better understand this exact question and determine what role technology might be able to play (as challenging as that is for exactly the reasons mentioned in this dialogue- most importantly the point that wisdom-building is so dependent upon local relationships). I am deeply influenced by both McGilchrist's books and Vervaeke's series and would love to hear much more on this topic from them!

Synoptic integrators and specialists is an important subject. I’m in college as an adult and what I actually retain naturally is sad after the fact, because the stress is so bad over resources and the goal being able to have a proper niche.

At some point McGilchrist says that the Greeks may have known things that we've forgotten... When i listen to this, i thought about the following: Would it be possible to "educate" AIs specifically in a subset of historical literature...ie all the Sumerian Cuniform texts or Early Egyptian texts ..etc. Classical Greek..etc. Would it be possible then to discuss with a "mind" from that particular period of history? I know we can speculate from reading those things how someone from Egypt's Middle Kingdom period might have viewed the world...but what if we could actually discuss with someone from that time... and thus glean a more complete picture of the worldview of that period? Would it work?

Thanks for this clip. Its amazing how much details I had missed in the main video. I once got poopooed in a Catholic live chat for referencing the distance of the planets as an example of extending the notion of the meaning outside of the little tit for tat inside self appointed tribe elder circle 🤨 hmmpt! So I said they wouldn't know Jesus even if they memorized every word in the Bible 🤭. They probably get a far-right twitch everytime the Pope is mentioned 🤦🏽‍♀️. I dont know how you can super glue grace to the faith without including the line of etiquette between church and home.

Ohhhh this is interesting! (I liked his explaination of the trinity) but the concept of the trinity could be the core of AND reason of that explaination.
