Not just the finest Cornet player of my generation but without doubt, of all time. I Had the great pleasure of playing alongside Phil for 6 years. When I first heard him play, he had the oldest, strangest A-flat/B-flat Interchange cornet I had ever seen. At that time, he was with Fairey and got the Chair with the National Youth Brass Band on his 2nd course (He was just 13 amazingly!)
Sadly, I lost touch with him in the early 70's when my own band career was ended by a car crash! As friendly as we were back then, I've never had the opportunity (due to my work) to do a 'catch-up' with him. Sad but, proud to have heard the man who revolutionised the art of playing the B-flat Cornet, beyond any standard, ever set, at any time in history!

Still one of the most distinctive cornet sounds. Poster of Rod Franks looking down, RIP Rod 😞

I've heard a lot of recordings of the time when he was the principal player of "BlackDikeMillsBand". No matter how many times I listen to his "World's Most Beautiful Melody" series album, I have wonderful memories. I remember well the public clinic for the Japanese British style brass band, which was rare at the time when he came to Japan. I was amazed that the tone was totally different when he played the student's cornet.

Hello Geneva and Mr. McCann, could You do a little telling about how to play a brass instrument ? Just the few important things to know. Thanks to all of You - Regards Stephan

Hello after watching some of your videos, I’m really starting to sway towards making a purchase of one of your three valve compensating baritones in silver plate. Do you have these in stock at your Stokesley shop, and do you take in part exchange.
That cornet by the way sounds awesome.

Any chance you could take the Rod Franks poster down? Using his image to market your instruments after his death is pretty disgusting, to be honest.
