SDO: Year 6 Ultra-HD

The sun is always changing and NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory is always watching. Launched on Feb. 11, 2010, SDO keeps a 24-hour eye on the entire disk of the sun, with a prime view of the graceful dance of solar material coursing through the sun's atmosphere, the corona. SDO's sixth year in orbit was no exception. This video shows that entire sixth year -- from Jan. 1, 2015, to Jan. 28, 2016, as one time-lapse sequence. At full quality on YouTube, this video is ultra-high definition 3840x2160 and 29.97 frames per second. Each frame represents 2 hours. A downloadable version has a frame rate of 59.94 with each frame representing 1 hour. See below for the link.

SDO's Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) captures a shot of the sun every 12 seconds in 10 different wavelengths. The images shown here are based on a wavelength of 171 angstroms, which is in the extreme ultraviolet range and shows solar material at around 600,000 kelvins (about 1,079,540 degrees F). In this wavelength it is easy to see the sun's 25-day rotation.

During the course of the video, the sun subtly increases and decreases in apparent size. This is because the distance between the SDO spacecraft and the sun varies over time. The image is, however, remarkably consistent and stable despite the fact that SDO orbits Earth at 6,876 mph, and Earth orbits the sun at 67,062 mph.

Scientists study these images to better understand the complex electromagnetic system causing the constant movement on the sun, which can ultimately have an effect closer to Earth, too: Flares and another type of solar explosion called coronal mass ejections can sometimes disrupt technology in space. Moreover, studying our closest star is one way of learning about other stars in the galaxy. NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, built, operates and manages the SDO spacecraft for NASA's Science Mission Directorate in Washington, D.C.

So beautiful. This is what we have to thank for our life and everything that we know

WOW! Holy Mackerel! I have never seen a better video showing the fluid-dynamic nature of the Sun's differential rotation. It's really neat to see the ">>>" patterns form (and the things IN them) as the Sun rotates. This will be included as part of my Sun lecture.

This is just incredible! thanks GODDARD and SDO Team!
The talk over was great! this will be a great video to use for school education.
thanks again.

Beautiful. I just wish the ignorant people who claim the sun is fake, or whatever is the nonsense of the week in their circles, would stop commenting on videos such as this just to make fools of themselves. It was fun laughing at them the first few times, but now it's getting annoying.

My momma told me not to stare at the sun for too long or I'll go blind . You just had me stare at it for 6 minutes. o.o

Stunningly beautiful. I just loved the way the dark filaments were twisting up and then would disappear. So dynamic. Better than watching a fire.

Than you so much sharing your work with all of us. The description at the end was informative and clear the video itself is enchanting and hypnotic in it's beauty

So cool! Amazing watching the closed magnetic lines move around causing CME's. Got to love it.

I would try to find some way of recording audio and visual beyond the spectral range of human sensors.
What you need to realize is that when people built these devices they built them to be able to capture and replay the range that people perceive.

There are things like infra red cameras which detect the light beyond the red and thermal which detect temperature differences but I am sure that these things you are getting are not in those ranges but rather an energy range.

If there was some camera that would pick up and visualize microwaves like gamma radiation...a Geiger counter that could play back a visual representation.

But even then this isn't radio active it is an electro magnetic field.

Some camera that could visualize magnetic fields would be absolutely incredible because this could be used for engineering and physics applications not just ghost visualizations.

I think a lot of the things that are seen like feint smokey wisps of figures are simply concentrations of the natural energy around us. the entity creating them has some kind of influence over them where they pool and cause ripples.

A bit like how light bends through different pressures but with magnetic fields.

Have you ever seen the light on a wall that passes through a flame? They are not shadows rippling on the wall butthe distortion of light and some places having more or less influence the brighter and darker ripples where light is bent.

The same as the light on the bottom of a rippling pool. there arent any real shadows it is just the light being bent away from the darker areas and towards the lighter areas.

Now these ghosts, spirits, souls in some of these videos are just that but with energy. electromagnetic energy. in a 3 dimensional space.

They are in a different dimension. we need to be able to capture and see these other levels of the electro magnetic spectrum.

Also very important is time shift. they dont operate on the tick tock 1, 2, 3 timeline.they dont have time, they can operate on any time dimension instant or slow.

Try playing back some of your recordings at different speeds and I promise you will get other messages. play some at faster speeds as though someone said hello but it took a minute to say it.

The best example I can share with you is if you had those old fashioned tape recorders and you press record but at the same time press fast forward so it is recording on tape but the tape is fast forwarding.

Speak into it and then play it back.

It sound like nothing, it sounds like hiss and static when played back normally.

Now play it back but fast forwarding, normally any thing recorded sounds like chimpunks on speed right, but the FF> recording will sound like a normal speed conversation.

Hint for NASA. Tr3 be operating on these alter dimensions.
Much of the materials built and used were built there too and the pilots who fly them are hybrid.

How can people thumbs down the sun? They wouldn't be alive without it

I like how they waited a few minutes with the explanations. It was a pleasant surprise that way.

Nicholeen, You have the best job. I wish I could have done your job just like my grandfather (opa) did at Freiburg University in the 50s/60s.
