Chapter 13 verse 33 of the Bhagavad Gita is a beautiful analogy to describe the nature of the soul. It says:

यथा सर्वगतं सौक्ष्म्यात् आकाशं नोपलिप्यते ।
सर्वत्रावस्थितो देहे तथात्मा नोपलिप्यते ॥

yathā sarvagataṁ saukṣmyāt ākāśaṁ nopalipyate
sarvatrāvasthito dehe tathātmā nopalipyate

As space, which pervades all things, is not stained because of its subtlety, even so the Self dwelling in the body everywhere is not stained.

The example of space is used to show that the soul is pure and unaffected by the material world, just as space is unaffected by the objects that it contains. Space is all-pervading, yet it is also subtle and invisible. In the same way, the soul is present in all beings, yet it is beyond the senses.

Here is an example to illustrate this verse:

Imagine a clear blue sky on a sunny day. The sky is all-pervading, and it contains everything in the universe: the sun, the moon, the stars, the clouds, the birds, and the airplanes. However, the sky itself is unaffected by all of these things. It remains pure and clear, no matter what is happening within it.

In the same way, the soul is present in all beings, but it is unaffected by the material world. It is not affected by the body, the mind, or the senses. It is not affected by pleasure or pain, happiness or sorrow. The soul remains pure and eternal, even as the body goes through birth, growth, old age, and death.

This verse teaches us that we are not our bodies, minds, or egos. We are the eternal soul, which is pure and unaffected by the material world. When we realize this truth, we can free ourselves from all suffering and attain true liberation.
