GALATA BRIDGE: Istanbul Sunset Walk over the Bosphorus Strait

The Galata Bridge in the city of Istanbul, Turkey (now renamed Türkiye) straddles the Bosphorus Strait — a region also referred to as the Golden Horn. On one side lies the trendy neighborhoods of Beyoğlu, Karaköy and Taksim. On the other side sits the old city (formerly known as Constantinople during the Roman Empire) with famous landmarks such as the Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar and Ayasofya (Hagia Sophia).

The bridge is a culturally important spot for local fishermen and a photogenic draw for foreign tourists (and hungry gulls) — especially in anticipation of the epic sunsets. As the day retreats, a symphony of prayer calls waft across this important city which sits at the nexus of Europe and Asia.
