Memories in Beach House [1983]

Genre: Electronic, Jazz, Synth Funk, City Pop
Style: Easy Listening, Fusion, Lounge

Project group consisting of Akira Inoue, Masataka Matsutoya, and Hiroshi Sato.

Track 2: Melting Blue, is composed by Akira Inoue, and there is a certain style of chord voicings he uses in this song as well as in other compositions that I find irresistible. When I listen to a song by him I find myself always listening for that chord @ 4:45 and @ 6:49.

*Tracks 3, 5, 8 were composed by Hiroshi Sato and are copyright restricted, so they're cut.* It's a shame because I thought track 5 is one of the better songs off this album.

Tracklist:
00:00 - Lovers Paradise
04:33 - Melting Blue
-Sun Bathing-
08:54 - Sunset Afternoon
-X's and O's-
13:10 - Wind, Wave & Wineglass
18:31 - Coconuts Island
-Evening Shadows-
23:14 - Blue Memories

Xs and Os and evening shadows are two of my favorite songs. It's frustrating to see them banned on YouTube

So there’s a band or at least I think it’s a band called Minerva Corp. On their album Elena, the third track called Cayman Island blues is just a slowed down version of the band Seaside Lovers song Melting Blue from their album Memories in Beach House. I wonder what’s up with THAT yo!

I was looking for the band Beach House and came across this instead. I'm actually not upset.

I like the opening sequence for Melting Blue so much I wanted to know what was being played. To the best of my knowledge here's what I think is happening from 4:40 - 4:50:

D Maj
vi 7 - iii - bIII - vi 7 - Vsus4

or:
Bm7 - F#m - F Maj - Bm7 - Asus4

@BaboPark I really love Melting Blue. In your description you mention chords used by Akira Inoue. I love those parts, too. Can you point me to more works of him that use those? Thanks a lot.

Solid album, Sunset Afternoon is just dreadful, though. what were they thinking, sounds more like the apocalypse than a sunset
