Word to the Wise - Hadestown Animatic

Hiya folks!! Guess who got reallyyyyyyyyyyyyy into Hadestown! I've actually liked this musical for a while - what can I say, I'm always a sucker for Greek mythology and a good well-written tragedy! But it's only in the past couple of months that I've got invested enough in it to start making fanart - I guess that's just what happens when you listen to the whole OBC about five times in a row.

I have loads of plans for animatics based on Hadestown, but I figured I'd start with this song since it's short, snappy, fun, and features some of my favourite characters: The Fates! One of the most fun parts of making this animatic was creating these designs for them - I took a lot of inspiration from Greek theatre as well as the original mythology.

Hope you guys enjoy this animatic - I usually seem to animate quite slow melancholy songs, so it was a fun change of pace to do something based on a really dynamic and energetic number!

I just love how this is the first scene where the Fates turn on a god. It’s so a strong scene since it shows that even the most powerful figure in the musical is subject to fate

You've got a good gauge of movement mixed with the dynamics. I love how the fate's faces are the masks the chorus would wear in a traditional Greek tragedy play seeing as the Fates have the same role in this musical.

I love this! It’s such a well done animatic, simple but elegant, and of a song that doesn’t normally get any animatics. Kudos!
