Fun Fact: The throne of the emperor of Japan is referred to as the "Chrysanthemum Throne", which is another reason why the flower is so important to the Japanese identity.

Wagashi are the best. So pretty and not too sweet compared with English sweets! I miss eating all the seasonal ones. They do special designs for each part of the year/holiday, so you get oni for Setsubun, plum blossoms, sakura, koi, autumn leaves etc

We are just going to gloss over the fact that this place has been around for 400 years.

Recently I looked up the oldest businesses in the world. This was one of them. Interestingly, the oldest companies in the world are virtually all in Japan, Britain, and France.

Japanese sweets are the best, they made it from yum if I'm not mistaken and they wrapped it also in a very beautiful boxes, and yes they are expensive. Worth it.

I love these. Especially the ones in chestnut, when they are in seasons, since I don’t really like red bean paste.

Makes me think of marzipan, a sweet almond paste that can be shaped into different things, usually small fruits or other little bite sized treats.

Did anyone else hear her say chrysanthenum instead of chrysanthemum? 😂

Anyone interested in this can maybe try reading the manga or watching the drama Watashitachi wa Douka Shiteiru. The story is set in this really old traditional sweet-making family. Though the focus isn’t sweet making itself, it plays an important role in the story and is quite fascinating/

I love Japan. So much care and dedication. Meanwhile here in America, few have any sort of pride about the food they make.
