Thanks for doing this! You can totally put the plates in either orientation. If you put them on top it makes it lot easier to pop them on and off. I just keep mine on the bottom because if I ever forget to swap the plates, the router bit will just push it out instead.

Just keep an eye on how far down your bit is going to go & where that will put the router's collet nut when you're at your deepest cut. If you're not careful, you may find it slamming into the plate. If you're using one of the smaller hole plates, that's going to carve a collet nut sized hole in your plate (if your plates drop in from the top) - DAMHIK. Or if you have your plates mounting from underneath, I expect it would send the plate down into the bit where it is likely to get caught and spun around and randomly chewed up. Otherwise I agree 100% with your review. It's a really nice set of plates. (I'll cut myself another slot plate one of these days 🙂)
