Recently watched a video by Larper Larsen about Halo Nightfall and the guy said that it would’ve been more fitting for the Yonhet character to instead be a Jackal since those are commonly smugglers and pirates. The Yonhet are an interesting idea, but the visual design and execution was pretty bad. If they were to disappear from the canon I doubt we’d lose much, unless they were to get a complete visual overhaul.

More on the topic of Nightfall, the guy was saying that it was mostly boring and failed to make Locke an intriguing character. He’s a lot like Finn from the Star Wars Sequels where on paper he has the potential to be super interesting, but they completely fumbled him (Finn is implied to be able to use the Force or at least just sense things through the Force and can use a light saber. He also used to be a Storm Trooper who broke his conditioning and left. They could’ve done a lot with that. Locke is an ex ONI agent who became a Spartan 4 and was hunting Chief). The guy was saying that instead of the superheated Ring created an entirely new element (not a compound an element) that’s specifically infectious to humans and only humans they should’ve instead found a way to use a weaker version of the Flood as a bio weapon. Then they’d have to wear their armor for the entirety of the mission, some of the plot contrivances could’ve been fixed, and it would’ve been cheeper to use practical effects for the Flood suits, with some added Infection Forms. That way their mission would’ve been much more urgent. He was also saying that they should’ve made Locke be a lone wolf who’s actions caused the deaths of some of his team and the ex Spartan guy would contrast him by seeing everyone as a cog in the machine and are needed to complete the mission. Haven’t watch watched the show so I have no idea if it’s any good. One thing I can say is that from what I’ve seen it sadly looks boring and could’ve been so much better.

Of course an empire like that of the Covenant would have actually more species than those usually seen in the games.

Not a big fan of how they look since it’s pretty uncreative. They should look far less human. These guys and other Covenant Fringe are really interesting ideas but 353 sadly didn’t handle them right. Hopefully we’ll see something brand new and cool eventually. If these things were to get a radical new redesign I highly doubt many people would complain about the retcon.

Honestly the Yonhet don't look like they belong in Halo, they look like they came from Star Wars or Star Trek.😂

Looks like an alien race that belongs in Star Trek or Star Wars, a very lazy design in comparison to literally every other alien in Halo.
