Glinda also taps the red shoes three times in the air, which is obviously a reference 🎉

In the books, Madame Morrible is described as having very obvious fish like qualities and characteristics. When she's first seen walking into the courtyard at Shiz, her costuming gives her the silhouette of a fish "walking" on it's tail. Absolutely love the costumer for that!

I loved this movie, and wish that I could watch it for the first time again. The nods to the original story were amazing.

Saw the movie today and I LOVE that they managed to keep two certain cameos as a secret for so long! I also started going, during that scene…and I also hummed Elmira Gultch’s theme when the bikes showed up xD

I LOVE the fact that during Defying Gravity, she struggled to stay afloat and almost fell to the ground! It shows consistency, since it’s her newfound control of her powers and it looks a bit odd that she’s an expert of it already.

I heard musical themes from the Wizard of Oz in the orchestra, Ding Dong the Witch is dead during Good News, I heard Follow the Yellow Brick Road, and Somewhere over the Rainbow… I loved that

I'm still absolutely in awe how the OG cameos were kept unspoiled!

Also in the ruby slippers section, the silver shoes that Nessa gets are in a case with red gems lining the interior… just thought that was a fun nod

Props to whoever that cast Cynthia and Ariana. They were born to play Elphaba and Galinda.

The ball room scene is the most emotional

I think this is an example of a good Part 1 because while it definitely ends with a cliffhanger, it's still a movie that managed to stand on it's own in building it's conflict with an extended climax on Defying Gravity that worked so well

I liked Bowen Yang’s shoutout to All That Jazz from Chicago when getting ready to go to the Ozdust Ballroom, he says he’s gonna “rouge his knees”!

Big spoiler for part 2- at the very beginning after the melting scene and the flying monkeys are flying away, under the castle on a bridge there is a horse (most likely fiyero’s horse)running away with someone wearing a cloak riding it… if you know u know…🧙

At the end of "The Wizard and I", Elphaba runs outside of Shiz and stands on a cliff. Beyond her are the Unpassable deserts that separate Oz from the rest of the world. The wizard uses his balloon to cross them, while Dorothy loses her slippers in them at some point when she travels back home at the end of Baum's first book. This is something discussed in detail in Baum's books, but only mentioned in passing during the 1939 movie and the musical. I loved seeing them in person.

Also, on the balloon contraption that delivered Elphaba's invitation, on either side of the walrus it said "OM" and "NE", a nod to the Wizard's origins in Omaha, Nebraska.

Madame Morrible "controlling the weather" is a necessary nod to what's to come...

I too think the lion may become the cowardly lion. I also loved the soft touch when the wizard did that bit with the coin - fake magic vs real magic
