Thinking of the lyrics, Rick Wakeman has this great line, “Jon Anderson is the only guy I know trying to save this planet while living on another one.”

Bruford is just one of the most inventive rock drummers around. Pair him with Squire and you get one of the best rhythm sections around.

Bruford ran away from YES after Close to the Edge!! I think he seemed to feel that they were beginning to get lost in these crazy arrangements and esoteric concepts. So he landed right in King Crimson's lap with more crazy arrangements and the austere concepts of Robert Fripp. Bill has since repented of his criticism of Close to the Edge. History does show it as one of the great gems of the decade after all....

Sometimes getting caught up in the Genesis vs Yes vs etc and then hear this incredible song and realize they are all unique and definitely elite.

Chris Squire played bass like it was a lead guitar. This song really highlights his abilities.

"Close To The Edge" is epic. You will find out some time. It's a long suite though. 20 minutes. But what's 20 minutes in one lifetime?

For those of you who only listen to new pop or top-40, these are what rock gods sounds like.

I'm a drummer, and Bruford is one of my all time favorites - particularly in Yes, and '80s King Crimson.

Thank you for the Yes... The next song from them should be The Gates of Delirium.

This song always reminds me of the old turntables. “We Have Heaven” on this album was a Jon track where he blends 7 or 8 vocal tracks. The song ends abruptly with a door closing. If you had your turntable on automatic, Heart of The Sunrise ended like this video when the stylus lifted. If you set your turntable to manual it would keep running and suddenly a door would open and We Have Heaven would finish. Took me about a dozen plays before I heard it. HoTS is a great track.

JP, Bill Bruford’s snare drum sound is legendary! It’s right up there with John Bonham’s right foot and Ian Paice’s single strike roll, and as identifiable as Chris Squire & Geddy Lee’s signature Bass sound! Bill Bruford is a Drum God of the highest order, even higher than Neil Peary imo. Neil come third, after John Bonham in Rock anyway..

Admittedly there’s a lot going on in Heart of the Sunrise but this is Seventies era Progressive Rock Music! Submit to the excellent musicianship and let it wash over you like the sunshine on a beautiful day..

I recommend you check out songs from Close to the Edge (there’s only 3), widely considered Yes’s best album!

This is kind of a challenging song to get into if you're new to prog. It has it's weirdness but it has such sublime heights as well.
