****** About Living Traditions Homestead ******

Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.

We put out 5 new videos every week! Tuesday through Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we transition from city dwellers to full time homesteaders!

When i hatch quail eggs i leave temp on 102 first 1-15 days and i drop it to 99 on 15-17 days i had 97-98% hatch rate. The reason why i leave temp so high is because even when i have to move eggs they will still keep the temp up and wont lose any temp at all! Also i do 75% humidity first 10 days and the rest of the days i do 60%. If you have anything under 90% hatch success do this method you can thank me later..

So I just got some quail eggs in the mail and am setting up my incubator and decided to check out a video for some tips. Pulled this up and started laughing my ass off when I saw that I’m currently wearing the exact same shirt!

Interesting video even for us folks who don't raise quail. Coffee and video. Great way to start my day. God bless!

Aww... I though you were going to show pictures of them running around after they hatched. They are the cutest darn little things. So tiny but ready to eat and drink and frolic. And they also start flying at 3 weeks and can be really entertaining for kids.

I am so glad I found this video. We just hatched our first set of quail (85ish) of them with about a 60% hatch rate on shipped eggs. We have been told so many times that they hatch on day 17, without fail. Ours mostly came on day 18 and 19. We were going to turn the hatcher off today but now will go ahead and leave it on until day 22. Thank you so much for all that y'all do, we enjoy your videos and learn so much from y'all!

You should stop turning on day 14 and they should hatch between day 16 & 18. Day 1 is 24 hours after you set, and every 24 hours thereafter is another day..

I can imagine a new Listerine commercial- " Not only does Listerine kill bacteria on bird eggs but it improves hatch rates too! "

Kevin,
You are quite correct about the possibility of late hatching. The eggs can and do run the gamut between early and late . As most everyone that hatches eggs knows, chicken eggs take 21 days to hatch . My eggs began hatching very early on day 20 ! By day 21 about half of the eggs were already hatched. And the hatching rate was slowing down. Day 22 and several eggs had not hatched. Day 23 and a couple more hatched. Day 24 and three more eggs hatched. Day 25 ! And another egg hatched. Although it was not properly developed and died after one day . With that it was time to stop.
Hatching eggs surely is not an exact procedure.

Great Info. Your shirt cracked me up. If you want to id the quail that layed the really big eggs just look for the one with the bulging eyes. Lol

I remember watching the wild ones that were on our property when I was a kid. They were really beautiful birds. Good luck with yours.

Just placing crumpled tissue or rice in the egg carton will work for standing them.
I have a hen that always lays the large dull brownish gray eggs. I think it is just a color variation. Laura

Another very informative video, Kevin.
Thank you.
Always great education with you and Sarah.

Tip:
Use smaller or normal-sized ice-cube trays.
They work great.
