Hey brother, make sure you make a drip loop on the coax before it enters the roof vent, saturate it with a spray bottle and and watch where the water flows so that you don't have a constant stream of water coming down the cable and into your attic.

Simple and functional. My kind of solution. By the way, if you haven't tried it, scan it on 6 meters with your analyser. Back when I had a 5/8 mag mount for 2 on my car, I discovered that it behaved like a 1/4 wave on 6 with a 1.3:1 SWR at the lower end of the band. Made many 6 meter contacts on it. You might have a bonus 6 meter antenna there as well.

Hey Larry! Nice alternative to drilling another hole in your house! Always hated doing that. 73! Kevin KB0BRY

Hey Larry. I cobbled together an exterior mount antenna like yours. I used an old Hustler SF-2 whip antenna with an aluminum L-bracket. Guess what I used for the grounding elements? Ever replace the rubbers on your windshield wipers? They have stainless steel strips that help stiffen the rubber. They made excellent radials. 1.3- 1. 5: 1 across the 2 meter FM band. The whole thing is only about 20 feet off the ground. Reaching repeaters all over the region.  Three states-  northeast PA, southern tier of NY State and northern NJ. Great stuff! Thanks for the inspiration. In summer, I`m going to go with a roof mount up on the house roof.  KC3BXZ Joe

You didn’t mentionwether it improved your signal. Wanting to install base antenna but concerned about causing interference to my neighbors electronics. Any recommendations? Thanks for the vids.

Larry, is that a Yaesu Ft-100D on your bench there? I have one, my first HF rig. It's now my back-up/portable rig.

I see you have the Mountain Lake MN school 2 meter propagation web-page up. I know Jon H. that is the Tech Coordinator there. He showed me the website this past September at a PLT continuing ed class in Marshall we have to take every year to keep our license up to date. I think it is his influence that the school has a great Ham Radio club in it.
I am from the Canby MN surrounding area. I saw your post on Ham Radio Concepts on CB radio. I am new to ham 2019 but had CB radios back in the 70s. I am thinking of getting back into CB radio. There sure were a lot of haters on CB in the comment section of that video.

Neat idea. Did you actually bend the whip, or is it somewhat adjustable from the base? I have these exact vents on my house.

Magnet mounts work great. BUT as soon as water gets under the mount the SWR’s go up. I deal with it on mine.
