You don't have to block shots to be the defensive player of the year. As a knick fan i can tell you the amount of shots he changed just from putting his arms out, tipping the ball and his low post presents helped the knicks a-lot. He deserves it, congrats Tyson

Everyone saying Ibaka should have won the defensive player award, its not all about blocks. Admittedly he was a shot blocking machine, I even had him on my fantasy, but he didn't get as much defensive rebounds! Its not all about stats either, its about how he played for the team, there are a lot of factors to consider. Chandler just carried the Knicks in that sense.

im an OKC fan and would have loved serge ibaka to win it, but chandler pretty much single handedly played defense for the knicks with occasional help from iman shumpert, just by himself he put the knicks in the top teams in the league for most defensive stats and i think that warrants his award

blocks doesnt mean that you're a better defender, it just means you got good length and are willing to contest.

Tyson Chandler single handedly brought the knicks from the 24th best defense in the league to the 5th best defense in the entire league in terms of allowing opposition the fewest points per game. He deserved this defensive player of the year guys. I dont care how many blocks Ibaka averaged, he did not impact okc as much as Tyson impacted the Knicks. Stfu and stop discrediting Chandler, he worked his ass off this season and deserved this award, be happy for him.

The reason Tyson Chandler won the Defensive Player of the Year Award is because he instantly turned the Knicks into one of the top defensive teams in the NBA, even better than the Oklahoma City Thunder. Serge Ibaka has the individual stats, but Chandler completely turn around that Knicks team.

The reason Tyson Chandler won Defensive player of the year is because not only of his stats but because he came to new york and made the worst defensive team in the league one of the better ones. It doesn't matter if his stats aren't as good as D12s he changed the knicks and turned them into a defensive team he helped change the culture.
