You don’t even have to scoop them. Just add the crushed garlic in a ziplock bag and flatten to a thin layer, freeze. Whenever you need it, just break off a piece! I have been storing garlic this way for years

Toss a bunch into a jar & pour in some olive oil. Make sure the garlic is covered completely, then stick it in the fridge. You have fresh garlic on hand & your making some wonderful garlic infused oil. As you use this, just continue to add oil to cover garlic. We do this fresh diced garlic & we roast a about a dozen heads & do the same. Having 2 kinds of garlic & infused oil is sublime

Not me going in the freezer thinking it’s cookie dough 😂

You can do the same thing with ginger, and it’s so nice to have it peeled and ready to drop into the pan. ❤

One of the best things that I learned from Becky! And I still have a few pucks left from last year’s garden!

I use the ice cube trays for 🌰 onions, ginger 🫚 and garlic as well. A very good way to save otherwise they will go bad if kept too long in the fridge. ❤❤ 😉

Love freezing garlic. We get the costco bag. Take 1/2 & toss with olive oil
Roast on a sheet of parchment till you smell it. Don't let it get brown or it tastes bitter. When cool roll up & freeze in ziplock bag. Take other 1/2 of costco bag. Toss in freezer. No puree needed. Easy & handy.

I do that together with celery, garlic onions, peppers and cylantro. It is called Puerto Rican Sofrito. Any use it in almost all my dishes. 😊❤

I need to try it this way!!

I just put the puréed garlic in a gallon bag and flatten it out before I freeze the entire bag. I break off what I need each time.

This way is more precise and convenient.

I did this about a month ago exactly the same. I kept seeing you pull out garlic pucks. I had about a pound container of fresh peeled garlic and didn't want it to go bad. I said "Becky has a great idea and I think I'll do the same". TY my friend❤

It is always better to grind the garlic, then fry it in some oil and put some salt, and then store it in freezer as cooked garlic paste. Add the paste to your recipes. You can similarly make ginger garlic paste. Your freezer won't smell and taste will be retained better. Of course, best thing is to not use too much garlic and crush fresh garlic every time.

Allicin, the compound that gives garlic its health benefits, is destroyed by the freezing temperature, unless you are able to freeze dry them rapidly. Frozen garlic can also develop a bitter taste.

I can’t imagine these mass produced pre peeled garlic bags have anywhere near the nice taste that fresh picked bulbs of garlic do

Love your idea of mincing and freezing fresh garlic. I also bought a 3lb bag of peeled garlic cloves, processed in my food processor. Only thing I did differently is I bought ice cube trays with lids (so it doesn’t make my freezer smell and put them in a ziplock bag. Best idea you shared!
