This song kept me going as a depressed teenager. 'So' is Peter's masterpiece album in my opinion.

I'll never give up. I'll keep fighting until I draw my last breath. My father taught me that.

Kate is so ghostly here, it's as beautiful as it is so desperately sad. This album is a masterpiece.

I'm mentally ill, and I can totally relate to this song. Things can get bad, but DONT GIVE UP!! To anyone that''s mentally ill don't give up.

This song has saved me from suicide so many times. I'm not kidding. There were times I was so down I did wanted to end it. This song brought me back. We need people to tell us not to give up.

In this proud land we grew up strong
We were wanted all along
I was taught to fight, taught to win
I never thought I could fail
No fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I've changed my face, I've changed my name
But no one wants you when you lose
Don't give up
'cause you have friends
Don't give up
You're not beaten yet
Don't give up
I know you can make it good
Though I saw it all around
Never thought I could be affected
Thought that we'd be the last to go
It is so strange the way things turn
Drove the night toward my home
The place that I was born, on the lakeside
As daylight broke, I saw the earth
The trees had burned down to the ground
Don't give up
You still have us
Don't give up
We don't need much of anything
Don't give up
'cause somewhere there's a place
Where we belong
Rest your head
You worry too much
It's going to be alright
When times get rough
You can fall back on us
Don't give up
Please don't give up
'got to walk out of here
I can't take anymore
Going to stand on that bridge
Keep my eyes down below
Whatever may come
And whatever may go
That river's flowing
That river's flowing
Moved on to another town
Tried hard to settle down
For every job, so many men
So many men no-one needs
Don't give up
'cause you have friends
Don't give up
You're not the only one
Don't give up
No reason to be ashamed
Don't give up
You still have us
Don't give up now
We're proud of who you are
Don't give up
You know it's never been easy
Don't give up
'cause I believe there's the a place
There's a place where we belong

This song is the soundtrack for a very dark, difficult time in my life. It's still nearly impossible to listen to it and without letting a tear or two fall.

surely, this has to be in everyone's top 10 songs of all time?

For those unaware of the song's true meaning, it's about a man whose unemployment causes stress in his domestic relationships. It inspired by not only the UK's difficult economic conditions under Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, but also images coming out of the Great Depression (specifically areas hit hardest by the Dust Bowl), compiled in a 1973 book called _In This Proud Land_ (which is also the first four words that open this song).

My late uncle sat me down to listen to this when I was a kid. He died from covid in February. Listening makes me feel he's next to me

Why does everyone have a tragic reason to like this song? I just love Peter Gabriel.

Greatest duet of all time. If you voted it down, you may as well just stop listening to music entirely, because you clearly don't appreciate it.
