Indiana’s growing agbioscience food sector has taken a huge financial hit during the pandemic. AgriNovus Indiana recently released a report showing aggregate losses cost Hoosier food producers roughly $500 million. Losses added up in five key agricultural areas: corn, soybeans, hogs, dairy and eggs. The study was conducted by researchers at Purdue University. The report’s co-author, distinguished professor and head of the Department of Agricultural Economics Jayson Lusk offers perspective on what the numbers mean for Indiana food producers.
