The popular movement of immersing your body into ice cold water continues to grow advocated by a handful of influencers.

But the risk for sudden cardiac death is very real. Numerous lawsuits have already been filed for the deaths of people engaging in this dangerous practice.

I have done cold plunges in some years with hundreds of other people doing the same thing. Cold plunges are very popular in Sweden. I have never heard of anybody becoming sick or/and die because of it. It is very relaxing and calming for the body and it feels wonderfull afterwards. Dr Davis talks about the risks in a way to scare people from cold immersing. I do not deny that these risks do exist but specially for those with risk factors or already with a heart condition.
I have worket in an cardiac intensive care unit and angioplastic care in Sweden in twenty years. It is a big hospital with a big patient intake. I have never heard of any patient who came in with a heart attack or died after a cold water bath. And if I missed some knowledge about somebody then these patients did not come in hundreds!! Not even in tens!
Please dr Davis come with som numbers! If there are not then there is a field for scientific search around this subject!

Jumped into a pool in the Winter at age 13. It took my breath away and it felt like my heart stopped. I am now 60, I won’t be jumping on that heavily promoted YouTube influencer bandwagon of cold water immersion.

My shower, even during the winter doesn’t come close to approximating the Arctic Ocean. I start my day with 4 round of Breathwork, going right into a several minute cold shower. The WHM does work, and has allowed me to gradually become a much calmer person. Period. Get in there and find out for yourself.❤️

Thanks for bringing this up! I always wondered how it could affect the heart or those with heart condition and it's risks

I sat in a patio chair that had ice water in it. It was winter and had rained. I wound up in the hospital with a heartbeat over 200. This was the first time I ever had such a problem. Since that I have had a recurring problem with an irregular heartbeat.

Thank you, Dr. Davis, for making this video. A friend of mine has been trying to get me to do this with him for almost a year. I guess my common sense won out because I never did it. Even after I showed him this video he will not stop.

I did a polar plunge. I'm so grateful my son was there to pull me out because I was shocked and couldn't breathe or move.

Appreciate this. Not because I hate cold water, though I do;😊 but because I've had a lagging concern about jumping all in so to speak. I know several who do this, and admit I've been a bit jealous, but my gut (there's that gut again) has been telling me this could cause a myocardial infarction. When I was 18 an old man told me to acclimate myself when getting into the pool. His brother jumped in and died of a heart attack. I must add, I am getting all those benefits from clean eating, infrared therapy, fatty chain acid, and my best choice ever: L. rueteri 'yogurt'. Thanks for all you do, Doc, and for keeping me out of the cold.

I deeply appreciate this information Dr Davis. I have actually done some cold plunges that were 63-67 or 73 degrees. But this information is something I will take to heart, ( unintentional pun) seriously thank you.
I won’t be doing any more of these.
Not to mention, my acupuncturist also mentioned to me, that extreme cold is very hard on the body from a Chinese medicine perspective. Grateful for your insights. Having lost my dear brother in law to falling into the water from his fishing boat in Norway, he was in perfect health, and avid marathon runner. That loss, and this message from you, is all I need to be convinced. Grateful 🙏🏻

I am glad you mentioned wim how. He has been summoned by the Dutch court by causing harm to people whom he advised to take cold plunges and hold their breaths. Thanks for sharing your wisdom, Dr. Davis

I started taking cold showers for the last two years, and it does an amazing job for me. It uplifts your mood and brings down your anxiety. I start with middle n move towards cold in the end for at least a minute.

thanks for this warning...many out here are considering the cold plunge therapy...for me this was enough to tip scale in rejecting it.

Went on a day trip cruising around islands in Turkey. Stopped in bay for a swim, people jumping off and not flinching, not saying anything, so i jumped in. F..k it was cold and i felt my heart having a problem, i promptly got out and yelled out "that water is cold". That made people stop and look at me shaking, they refrained from swimming and lots of people got out of the water - they had been putting on a brave face but realized that was a stupid stance to take.
I learnt my lesson.

When I was about 8yrs old, against my dads warning, I jumped into an unheated swimming pool... my diaphram froze. I could not breathe in or out. LESSON NEVER FORGOTTEN!!
