I’ve been fascinated by the ZTT and Stephen Lipson sound ever since I was a teenager listening to Relax/Two Tribes, Propaganda and Slave to the Rhythm in my bedroom. The power and beauty in these tracks continue to mesmerise me almost 40 years later. The ‘A Secret Wish’ album is a classic and the track Jewel still makes my spine tingle when the synthesiser bursts through the wall of abrasive percussion and vocals as if suddenly released from a box, like a bird. Simply magic. Thank you for these wonderful interviews. I do also agree that harmony has become less of a feature of modern pop/chart songs.

One of the greatest albums of the 80's. As a lad growing up, playing in bands and starting to produce others this album was a massive influence. It still inspires me to this day.

I don't know if Stephen will read this but I want to thank him so much for this new excellent album from xPropaganda which I'm listening to so often these days.

A Secret Wish is one of my all-time favourite albums, and was massively influential on me as a musician and producer. I love listening to Steve Lipson talking about the creation of this amazing album. His dry Englishness masks an incredible and humble talent. Loving the xPropaganda album, too. It's definitely a worthy follow-up. Glad you and Lippo get on so well to go through all this ZTT stuff! Please try and get hold of JJ, Anne and Gary and do Art of Noise next! What a time to be alive.

14:00 The choir is from the PPG Waveterm factory library, BTW! M400, a low quality Mellotron-style choir... and it's flipping glorious. I remember the first moment I heard it on the record, it was quite a profound moment for me.

I adore this album and still listen to it often. As a huge Japan fan, I always wondered what David Sylvian's contribution was as there's an early mix on YouTube with him jamming. Fascinating to see such a classic broken down. Brilliant!

'A Secret Wish' is such a defining masterpiece of '80s synth pop. It's an album that had a huge influence on me back then, and I still play a lot, even after all these years. The new XProaganda album has that same allure and, to me, sounds like the missing follow up. It's on heavy rotation now. Thanks so much for the very insightful discussion with Stephen looking at one of my all time favorite albums.

The detail and effort in the production is incredible. It's apparent how masterful it was to produce a record that still sounds so modern after almost 40 years.

Stephen Lipson talking about the production of ‘Propaganda’ with Warren Huart! How much better is this channel going to get? 😁👍🏼

Jewel became one of my all time favourite records due to it being the theme to “American Football” on Channel 4 in the 1980’s. I’d hear that AWESOME theme twice a week. I hunted down the 12 inch and played it to death. A variation of it was used as the theme for the RAC Rally on sundays too. A Secret Wish is a classic and the new album? Oh my goodness!! Spiritual successor in every sense. Just fantastic. For Stephen and the girls ‘just messing about’, it’s phenomenal. Gonna be on my rotation for sure. Congratulations and Welcome back!

My dad had this on a cassette we played over and over on holiday sailing trips... haven't heard it since and it instantly teleports me back to when I was 10.

Great interview! I done a cover of The Last World with a piano intro more than 10 yrs ago spending a couple of months. I learned more things in this 50 'min video than I did not understand in two months. Mr. Lipson is a legend in modern production. Thank you Maestro

This is one of my all time top 10 records of all time. I was mesmerized when I first heard these tracks in clubs in the mid 80’s. Something stood out from all the rest. There was something special and unique about this record. The synth sounds were more interesting. The arrangements of the songs felt more sophisticated. Having this insight from Steven is truly a treasure. I will admit, I was hoping to hear more about Mertens and Dorpers contributions to the music. Also talking about guest musicians like Stewart Copeland.
