Link Wray - Rumble (1958)

preview_player
Показать описание
Guitarist Link Wray began intentionally manipulating his amplifiers' vacuum tubes to create a "noisy" and "dirty" sound for his solos after a similarly accidental discovery. Wray also poked holes in his speaker cones with pencils to further distort his tone, used electronic echo chambers (then usually employed by singers), the recent powerful and "fat" Gibson humbucker pickups, and controlled "feedback" (Larsen effect). Used in 1994 in movie Pulp Fiction.

The only song without lyrics to be banned from the radio.

This was one of my first 45 rpm acquisitions back in the day. Still gives me goose pimples. Love the way the tremolo sound builds up till it sounds like a helicopter taking off!

This isn't true. Link Wray always said that he had an amp with a damaged speaker, but it came out in a way he liked when it turned it up. PERIOD.

I truly love that timeless song: I discovered it by watching Pulp fiction. I'm surely not the only one...

im not even old enough to remember but at 66 i do remember people saying the DRUM BEAT was so close to stripper and burlesque music of the time and girls did like the beat...to dance to ...provacatively...masked by an innovative guitar riff. can I get an Amen..?

Was it the “devil’s tri-tone” that got the song banned?
