I like his right and to the point approach. No bs, no click-baiting, just facts. Thank you Sir

Thank you for official info. Highly appreciated.

If a radio astronomer sees an interesting signal they should inform their fellow astronomers within hours so the observation can be verified. Folks that wait months to inform the community should not be taken seriously because they have shown themselves to be unwilling to subject their claims to scrutiny. Science reporters would do well to heed the same advice.

Keep at it! You guys are the best! Projects like this are the best part of society and life in general :)

Fair enough and thanks for being to the point. A pity as it would have been really cool if it was ET but at least you have saved me the time of watching and listening to all the BS about this signal on the net...Keep up the good work Seth and SETI

i find it funny how he almost said 19something instead of 2015, but everything he said was truthful and transparent

Thanks for the update, it was always a longshot but it is better to have the truth than a load of nonsense. Keep on looking!

So why the hell did they publish the information 1 year later ? Any clue ?

So, can we say it was something like the wow signal ?

You looked only 2 days. What if the signal is intermittent? Lets say, It comes in pulses every 3 or 5 days? maybe once per week?

minor planet observations get reported to The Minor Planet Center. What is the equivalent body for reporting possible SETI signals?

At some point we'll detect something. I think when we look to space we don't see it in the same way we do staring out over the emptiness of an ocean or across miles of desert lands. Instead, it's more like staring out of an airplane window at cities. Every culture has stared at the night sky and intuitively felt that they are a small portion of something bigger.

What frequency should the signal from HD 164595 have had?

I've learned not to get my hopes up, but still.

I know there are international agreements against this but,
Could exploding a sequence of nuclear devices in space be picked up at any appreciable distance.

I am sceptical about this signal. I am not an astronomer but work in communications engineering and it doesn't make sense if an advanced civilisation would use 11GHz for a task like establishing communications. It would make much more sense if they used something near the hydrogen line around 1, 4 GHz because that would not be dampened by atmospheres that much. I would say it was a CME, microlensing or just a satellite (there are some operating on this frequenz). SETI gets signals like that every other day and the array in russia (Ratan-600) isn't really usefull for SETI research because it operates only in the wideband (or is it broadband in english?) spectrum. The whole thing is kinda blown out of proportion. Sorry for my english I am a bit rusty.

Thanks so much for everything you do! Space is vast and humans are impatient. One day SETI will find something, today just isn't that day. I'd rather have a null result than you guys wasting resources combing a patch of sky looking for something that isn't there. Remember people, even the human race hasn't been broadcasting that long. Be patient! If life isn't insanely rare in the universe something will turn up sooner or later. And if it is insanely rare, then look at the bright side, think about how lucky we are.

maybe its a super earth that we thought was a Neptune like planet.
