The chubby little cupid on the ground is so cute. 🥰
"It's a bit of a conspiracy, isn't it? I'm not sure that she stands a chance." That cracked me up.
I wonder where the argument rests today: are the couples moving toward, away, or is there a continual flow in both directions?
I'll probably never use fête galante again, but what an honor is must've been for Watteau, to know the Academy was willing to make a whole new category for this piece to be accepted.
Both Poussin and Rubens had impressive and beautiful styles - I'm so glad that I don't feel the need to pledge my allegiance to one camp or the other. 🤭
