[53] Chinese Magnetic Power Box Lock (Bypassed/Picked!)

preview_player
Показать описание
Here is an odd little lock from china that is supposedly used to lock up power or utility boxes to help prevent tampering. It uses a magnetic key and has no pins.

I didn't have a strong magnet it try and open the lock, but I did have my trusty screwdriver!

Not a very secure design, but still something new for the collection!

Just a small remark, showing something is magnetic is useless if you use another magnet to show it. You should use a paperclip (or something else that is magnetic) against the key to show it's magnetic otherwise it's useless.

About tamperproofing. Below the black plasting ring, isnt there a hole through both the shackle and the body of the lock when in the locked position? This is very likely intended to be used for some sort of serialized tamper seal. Thus giving it a reasonable degree of tampering proof. What you think?

Very interesting end enjoyable video. You could cut-open the one you played with so many times and explore the internals.

Cool, I have a pick for that lock, but I didn't know what the lock looked like until now. it's shaped like the key with individual magnets.

I'm curious what the magnetic field on the key looks like. Is there just one internal magnet? Multiple? You could put the key on top of iron filings (like a woolie willy) to find out.

Your swiss army knife is probably a little magnetic man. Mine is, they do it to help you hold on to the screw with it being as awkward to use as it is.

I don't think it's to prevent people from tampering with the internals of a powerbox, but rather to prevent people from electrocuting themselves while messing with a powerbox.

Probably used behind an actual security system as a deterrent only. I'm willing to bet you could snap it with a simple lever.

Do you have a diagram of the inside of that thing? I feel like there isn't a magnet at all inside of there, just that the key is made out of a magnetic metal. It looks like it turns too easily if you were overcoming any kind of lock mechanism, which makes me thing that key is more like a 'special' tool.

it doesn't have a name but due to how easily it's exploited im guessing it's a masterlock :p

Lol, "Magnetic Power" is just a chinese way to add marketing value. The key is most likely just plain steel. Or did it have a real magnet in it?
