Papyrus drops the bone he is holding in his sprite, and crouches down to take a rest.

When you attempt to hit Papyrus in this state, he quickly picks the bone back up and blocks the hit. During this part of the fight, Papyurs does not attack, ending his turn after saying a line or two of dialogue.
Dialogue:
AH... WELL, THAT'S DISAPPOINTING, BUT I CAN'T SAY I WASN'T EXPECTING THAT...
I CAN SEE IT IN YOUR EYES, HUMAN. YOU AND I ARE THE SAME IN THE WAY THAT WE BOTH JUST WON'T GIVE UP.

The player manages to get a hit on Papyrus that deals a particularly good amount of damage, breaking his block. This then leads Papyrus to say the following dialogue:

SO THEN... THAT'S HOW IT IS.
I REALLY HAD HOPED IT WOULDN'T HAVE COME DOWN TO THIS. BUT MAYBE THAT WAS NAIVE OF ME.
DURING OUR FIGHT, I'VE BEEN FEELING SOME OVERWHELMING EMOTIONS. EMOTIONS LIKE... ANGER, AND SADNESS.
BUT FOR YOUR SAKE, I CAST THEM ASIDE, BECAUSE I THOUGHT THERE WAS STILL A CHANCE YOU COULD BE REDEEMED.
NOW I CAN SEE THAT WAS UNREALISTIC OF ME TO BELIEVE... AS MUCH AS IT PAINS ME TO SAY THAT.
I'M SORRY I COULDN'T SAVE YOU, HUMAN.

In an instant, Papyrus's demeanour shifts. The unsure, uncomfortable expression on his face is now replaced by one of certainty and focus, as he puts the player through by far his most powerful attack yet. Gaster Blasters, which have gone completely unused throughout the battle until now, are used without hesitation, aiming at the player's soul to send them to the depths of hell. If the player dies on this attack, they will find that Papyrus did not mean his words lightly, as they will be sent to the game over screen instead of being spared by Papyrus on 1 HP. Most surprising of all, Papyrus appears to be doing this without too much effort, clearly showing how much he has been holding back this entire time. At the end of this attack, the player's soul is surrounded by bones, unable to move, Papyrus still not saying a word. A sad expression is shown on his face briefly, before he strikes you with the killing blow, ending the fight with your demise.
