The one tip I learned along the way that helped me quite a bit was when an instructor told our art class that as watercolorists we are "painting with water". That water just happens to have color in it. When I started thinking in terms of painting with water not painting with paint, my water control with the brush improved very quickly.

I'm a professional beginner. LOL. I took in-class beginner classes and learned a lot from the teachers, but neither one gave the basic tips you're providing. By now, I''ve learned what you teach here, but I encourage EVERY beginner to watch this and do exactly what you say about selecting brushes, pigment and paper. Your explanations about WHY to make certain selections helped me today. And you're right - practice is everything. I lost a summer of practice due to illness right after my first course - when I tried to pick it up again, I was lost. I'm on my 2nd course now and practicing every single day - the progress is amazing. Great video, Anthony! Thank you.
