The 20s is a very weird decade. Each year has a huge difference between them. Between 20 and 25, there's a lifetime of difference, but between 30 and 35, you couldn't guess that more than a month passed

Age gaps are less problematic the older the younger person is. A 50 year old dating a 30 year old is pretty much fine. A 40 year old dating a 20 year old is a bigger problem. At 20, a person has very little life experience and is way easier to take advantage of. Of course, exceptions exist, but it's generally pretty predatory of a MUCH older person to date someone under 25ish.

I always remind my 13 year old niece: if a guy way older than you (17+) says something along the lines of "wow, you're so mature for your age 😘"... RUN!

I kind of like that rule, but it is interesting because if you follow it perfectly you can’t date anyone until you’re 14. Also to be clear I don’t think this is a good or bad thing, it’s just something interesting I noticed.

When I was 19 a 42 year old man that I worked with told me he was interested in dating me right after I said I saw him as an uncle. Like sir, I’m not even half your age! I’m barely an adult! At least he wasn’t pushy and left me alone after that

Tbh it makes sense to me. If he's in his 40s and the rule works then the girl is at least 27. I wouldn't be comfortable in that relationship but a 27 year old is very capable of making her own decisions.

I take it as "as long as both of them are consenting adults it is between them and them alone. And family members/close friends, depending on the situation"

They're both adults who should be able to handle consequences of their actions, good or bad.

I just wanna clear up a couple of things people seem to be confused about, firstly this saying is meant to mean “don’t date people who are 20 or so years younger than you” but I recognize this isn’t a perfect saying but I hoped I got the point across but it seems I didn’t, secondly yes I am well aware teen pregnancy is a think and that the youngest mother was 5 etc. i feel like those are the exceptions to the general rule of normally people have their babies in their early to mid 20’s is all, thirdly, for guys the saying would be “don’t date anything you could have sired” since I had a couple of people ask about that 😅
