Now showing in Australian cinemas. #Nitram (Caleb Landry-Jones) lives with his mother (Judy Davis) and father (Anthony LaPaglia) in suburban Australia in the Mid 1990s. He lives a life of isolation and frustration at never being able to fit in. That is until he unexpectedly finds a close friend in a reclusive heiress, Helen (Essie Davis). However when that friendship meets its tragic end, and Nitram’s loneliness and anger grow, he begins a slow descent into a nightmare that culminates in the most nihilistic and heinous of acts. A film by #JustinKurzel.

GO SEE THIS FILM. It’s shocking, it’s disturbing, it makes your skin crawl, but it’s a story that needed to be told. I wanted to hate Landry-Jones’ performance. As an Aussie actor, I was upset they had cast an American in a role about such an infamous moment in Australian history. Having now seen it, I cannot fault his performance in anyway. This film is unmissable, the best Australian movie I’ve seen in a long time. Go see it in the cinema.

Calebs acting was insane. Perfect person for the role and played it incredibly well. So well it was like we were watching the real Nitram. Incredibly sad, creepy and worrying. Its about his life, his thoughts and dealing with his emotions on the daily. Amazing acting within the cast.

I have this theory that when you're trying to decide whether you should watch a film or not you come to YouTube watch the trailer AND read comments for about 5 minutes.. Its honestly better than going off a rotten tomatoes or imdb rating

Everyone was absolutely fantastic in this! They all approached their characters with integrity and respect! I know it’s a touchy subject but it’s important that we keep the memory alive

I met Caleb in 2015 on a film set. He was cool and down to earth! Really cool to see him win Cannes Best Actor.

I'm a West Aussie and saw this at the cinema today. I was in year 6 when it happened (still remember it coming on the news) and I'm 35 now... I left firstly feeling that if I was a Tasmanian, I couldn't have watched it. Secondly, that it was brilliantly done. The cast was truly epic.

An absolute masterpiece. The acting, writing and cinematography all outstanding. A deeply uncomfortable watch but done exceptionally well.

Glad to see Kurzel return to making personal, searing movies. Really happy Caleb is getting due recognition. Got to meet both of them, and they're really good dudes

As someone who grew up in Tasmania and is very familiar with the Port Arthur case, I thought this was an absolutely phenomenal and impactful film that gives us insight into Martin as a person. Most importantly, it is a sad yet important reminder of the many lives lost that day. You will never be forgotten ♥️

'Nitram' certainly doesn't glorify him, there is very little violence that occurs on screen which I found respectful and tasteful. Whilst some consider the film insensitive or unnecessary, I think it's not only important to learn his backstory, but it is a big part of Australian history that cannot be forgotten. We cannot forget the tragedy that occured that day, and the many lives lost.

It's also a perfect presentation of our systemic mistakes and failures.. the perfect example of why lenient gun laws are a danger to society and why access to supports is essential for those with disabilities.

Please do yourself a favour and watch this.

I just finished watching it. I’ve been dying to watch this movie for months now but it only came to Canada April 1st 2022 which was my 3 year anniversary of sobriety. I was waiting for the right pocket of time to watch this alone, in quiet.

I cannot put into words how next level this film is. The story, unfortunately, has a lot of allure but I wasn’t expecting this. Caleb has always been an excellent actor in my opinion but this performance truly is Oscar-worthy. Anthony LaPaglia, Essie Davis and Judy Davis could all be in the running for best supporting too.

Please, if for whatever reason you don’t know the Port Arthur Massacre story, read up on it, watch videos and the interviews with Martin Bryant, and THEN watch this film.

I don’t think this film would have the same effect if you learned about it after, brilliant as it is.

I just finished watching this movie and I will tell u, I was shocked that this was a true story. After I finished watching it, I did my research and I couldn’t believe what happened that day. Rest in peace to the victims.

Saw it at the Cannes Festival, a well-told sadly true story with a strong cast

Just like Snowtown, this movie is nothing short of a masterpiece. Incredible performances by every cast member. As a Melbournian, I could tell right away it was filmed in the Geelong region. I like their approach, to not name him Martyn and to not film it in Tas. I know the making of this film was controversial, but I'm glad they did it.

Here is why the title of the film is written backwards: "The film, which is being made by streaming service Stan, will not refer to gunman Martin Bryant (to be played by Caleb Landry-Jones) by name, however, the title is his first moniker spelled backwards."
