I was in the stadium that day as a child. The stadium was so hyped because an Aussie was about to get a gold medal, then just before entering the stadium she was disqualified. The predominantly Aussie crowd were feeling a bit bummed. I didn’t know the tragic story of the Chinese athlete, and this feels like a well deserved win.

This story doesn’t end there. My second uncles wife is Her cousin. They didn’t all abandon her although the official Chinese team and majority of it had abandoned her she still had friends and family who watched and cheered for her from the sidelines.

As an Australian I would still cheer for the winner even if my countries athlete was disqualified 200m from the finish line. A win is a win and everyone should be congratulated for that.

This story reminded me the boxer from Kyrgyzstan at the Olympic games 2024. The Ministry of Sports booked him a ticket for the return flight, right after his first fight, and didn't tell him. He performed without a coach, all by himself. As a coach, he was assisted by the coach of an Uzbek boxer. As a result, he reached the final against the Uzbek boxer and fought all by himself. During the breaks between rounds, it was sad to see him sitting alone in a corner, no one said encouraging words to him or wiped the sweat from his forehead as they did to the Uzbek fighter. as a result, he won the silver medal. One warrior in the field!
