Researching Race Series-March 5, 2025-Dr. Sadhvi Dar

Researching Race Series centres the needs of doctoral students who are researching race, decolonizing, and associated areas of scholarship. The series is a supportive programme of lectures, discussions, and workshops bringing together race scholars from diverse disciplines and geographies.

Interviewing is a staple method among qualitative researchers, and it has been utilised by many scholars of race and decolonial studies to understand the internal lives of their research participants. Interviews can help race scholars explore discourses, themes, narratives, and symbolic realms with their research participants who have a lived experience of racialisation and embodying race. In this workshop, Dr Dar outlines the basics of interviewing by introducing one-to-one semi-structured interviews, ethnographic interviews, and unstructured interviews and how these can be utilised when researching race.
