Song of Carthage - Epic Roman Music

Music & vocals by Farya Faraji. Please note that this isn’t reconstructed period music, only modern music using Ancient Roman instruments and aspects of their music theory. I especially wanted to emulate the high degree of chromaticism found in works if the era such as Mesomedes’ songs, with the melody switching between the Dorian Diatonic, Phrygian Diatonic, and Lydian Chromatic modes. The instruments are ancient lyres, aulos, askaulos and cymbals. The melody uses reconstructed Classical pronunciation and adheres to the Latin stress rule dictated by the long vs short vowel distinction in the language.

Militarily speaking, Rome is known for two things asides their armour and weapons: The sheer anger and spite they feel at their enemies. This song does an amazing job conveying this, between the modes used, the lyrics and the seemingly very motivated percussion man who is absolutely hammering the instruments.

Edit: Acabo de recordar, la canción simboliza cuando una persona se entera de la caída de una ciudad a manos de los Punicos y este mismo sugiere el enfrentamiento Romano contra los Cartagineses, algo simplemente épico y hermoso (según yo es así)

I have to thank you for the Herculean labour you have done in this channel, your passionate commitment in resurrecting the epic and the soul of ancient civilizations and folk traditions is astonishing! I absolutely fell in love with your music and your videos, that enriched my awareness about the complexity of Mediterranean and Eastern music traditions! This piece is no expection, and it is a shame that we have nothing left of the Punic music, because I think that a simphony themed to Hannibal would have been Awesome.
