I dug my old Casio out of a box that was in storage. It was beat to hell, and the battery was dead. But I replaced the battery, and it works fine. It's a Waveceptor model, so I can see all my other Casio watches slowly losing or gaining seconds as the months go by while it stays perfectly in time lol

Quartz watch certified is 99.9994% accurate . Way more than a mechanical watch

I think it’s because the mechanical watch is a bit easier to understand. Hairspring goes like a pendulum? People get it. Fewer people understand the interesting chemistry of crystals, the electric fields involved, semiconductor band gaps, and Turing logic gates. These topics are equally interesting from an engineering perspective.

Both mechanical and quartz have their pros and cons. One isn’t necessarily better than the other.
