Sonics were definitely the Kryptonite to the Rockets they beat them in the playoffs in 87, 89, 93, 96

The Sonics were usually a terrible matchup for the Rockets due to them having a better backcourt, along with a better player at the Power Forward position.

Gary Payton and Ricky Pierce/Hersey Hawkins were in the backcourt, while Shawn Kemp was the PF.

Compare that to players such as Kenny Smith and Vernon Maxwell, and Otis Thorpe/Robert Horry. They were still great players, but they were not to the quality of the Sonics.

That is what led up to the Rockets trading for Charles Barkley. I did not agree with the trade, because it hurt them in the long run with Barkley dealing with injuries along with Sam Cassell and Robert Horry finding their roles on other teams.
