Diego Barroso provides an overview of the large-scale digitization project, “American Crossroads: Digitizing the Vascular Flora of the South Central United States,” which he manages. This collaborative project, which has been funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF; Award #1902078) to digitize almost two million specimens over the course of four years, is co-led by FWBG|BRIT and four other institutions across Texas and Oklahoma. In total, it involves over 46 different partners, most of which belong to the Texas-Oklahoma Regional Consortium of Herbaria (TORCH). With the project now in its third year, Mr. Barroso discusses the project challenges and successes, as well as the innovative plans in store for the remainder of the project.
