SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is a widely used protocol for managing and monitoring devices on a network, like routers, switches, servers, and printers.

It works in a manager-agent model:

Manager: The system that sends requests and receives responses. It monitors and manages network devices.
Agent: A software on the device being monitored that responds to the manager’s requests and can also send alerts (traps) when certain conditions occur.
SNMP helps administrators gather performance data, troubleshoot issues, and control devices remotely, making network management more efficient.
