The elephant was marching to destroy the Ka'bah! Guess what happened?
𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗵 𝗔𝗹 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗹 (Surah no.105 of the Noble Quran) tells us the story of Abraha and his army as they marched towards Makkah to destroy the Ka'bah. This army had elephants in it too. Allah saved the Kabah from this army by sending flocks of small birds (ababeel) with stones in their beaks and claws. The army was destroyed with these stones and Abraha died too.
