This Christmas, as we gather by the fire to enjoy good food and good company, it’s worth reflecting on how taxation is driving up the costs of festive cheer. From trees to turkeys, every tradition is tangled in red tape.

Inspired by the Twelve Days of Christmas, we’ve unwrapped the hidden costs behind some of the season’s most iconic gifts. Now, we’re not necessarily opposed to all these charges, but we just want to highlight how much of the cost of Christmas is eaten up by the state.
