Low, Fast, Loud, and expensive...right? Turns out being super low isn't always super bad. From entering and leaving the car, to going over every day obstacles like speed bumps. Sports Cars don't nearly struggle with as many things as the General Public still thinks they do! Liked this video? Go subscribe and watch more like "5 Gamer Misconceptions About Cars!" if you like cars and car culture, perhaps any of my other Car Enthusiast and other STupid Things Car Guys say videos will be a treat to watch! Why does this part of the description seem so shoehorned and ham-fisted? Well it's because the algae rhythm (Apparently I can't say the actual word, otherwise it thinks I'm criticizing it, but just say those two aloud) likes it when I shove as many keywords into the description as possible, AHEM, Noob Enthusiast Misconceptions About Cars, uhh sorry. COUGH 10 Words Every Car Guy Must Know! Non-car Guys be like, oh wow, what a strange cold. I'm just shouting Video titles...ACHOO 5 Car Enthusiast Misconceptions from Non-car People. Wow, what a mouthful.

Also that Honda Fit and Civic be slaying
RIP that RX-8. Maybe your Apex Seals rest in peace.

always found it funny how people talk about how 86 aren’t real sports car but praise austin healy or triumph which was the equivalent of their youth

I'm 6'5" and drive a pontiac fiero and every time I'm somewhere new, I get asked how I fit dozens of times. It gets really annoying

Another huge misconception is that if a sports car is "slow, " there no way it could possibly be fun. When I was shopping for a Miata i had people genuinely warn me not to get one because they're slow, boring, wouldn't be like how you'd expect, and that I'd end up wanting to get rid of it (even though I had driven a Miata and fell on love with how it felt). I ended up buying a real nice green 1997 M Edition and guess what? I love it! I love how it takes corners, I love how you can feel the road when driving it, I love how light it is, I love how small it is, I love how responsive the throttle is, I love how zippy the engine is, and I love the convertible top. I could give a crap less if a Honda Accord can beat me at a stop light, I'm having fun! Also, if you ever drive a Miata, it feels faster than it actually is. Its almost like driving a big go kart.

The part were 200 hp are considered“low power” is super ridiculous for people outside of North America and probably Australia.
In Germany the engine power of new cars being sold is around 150 hp on average. The majority of cars is less powerful with many having less than 100 hp.

6:45 I've noticed a lot of people think a performance car variants (excluding dodge) are only as good as it's 0-60 times. But I believe that handling is infinitly more important then flat out speed. I own a WRX and sure she's not the quickest off the line but she's a joy in the corners. I'm not gonna hate on you for liking flat out speed, just be aware that speed isn't the only factor to a sports car.

1 common misconception about cars in general:
It's just a car
Or is it?

For the 4th misconception, videos of Yaris GRs driving around corners or on dirt are perfect examples. The car may "only" have ~250hp but I've never seen a car be able to pull turns like that except for F1 cars and some super cars

One misconception I seriously loathe is my non-car type family. Whenever I bring up a good deal they always shoot it down by saying the usual “Oh parts will be too expensive! Your insurance would be through the roof! You’ll blow all your savings on it” and yet they don’t do the research themselves lol. It grinds my gears

Thats why there was a massive jump from the C4 to the C5 Corvette… the C5 was the first Corvette that was seriously raced in Sports Car racing. Its so cool seeing the Corvette evolve over the years thanks to the Pratt & Miller team’s commitment to domination in GT1/GT2/GTLM and the upcoming GT3 Pro. Thats why the Corvette is what it is now. That racing program is great and its challenged the programs of Porsche, BMW, Ford, Dodge, and others that raced GT.

A common misconception I've seen (on the Internet) is people calling Mustangs and similar vehicles hypercars. I'm not going to judge them for it, it's perfectly fine if someone doesn't know that a Mustang is not a hypercar and at the end of the day it is just a car and it doesn't matter what you call it, but it is really annoying.

If you’ve ever watched a Smoking Tire review, he gives great examples of sports cars with excellent damping and rides. He loves the MagRide in the c8 corvette and said the ride in the 720s exceeds almost every luxury car he’s ever driven other than Bentley and rolls royce. Incredible how well rounded these cars are nowadays

Fun fact: gran turismo is one of the least controversial games ever made, being accessible for more than 90% of the world, assuming they have electricity, a TV and a PlayStation.

Awesome video. Easy to follow. Easy to understand. Very relatable. The BRZ are awesome cars to own and drive.

I've valued suspension and throttle response above all else when it comes to tuning, i believe driveability is seriously overlooked in our "big number vroom vroom" culture in North America.

As a person that recently started to drive an GT86, I have would say that what you are saying is correct. The 86 platform is supposed to be fun to drive, but fast. Having said that, it is faster than I thought It would be. And I’m coming from a 320 HP WRX normally.

Two things I wanted to point out, and perhaps someone could help.
1) About sports cars scraping less nowadays, I assume law also affects it. As time passes, the requirements for roadworthiness are refined, as happened in my country about a decade ago (all cars are requested the lowest point of the vehicle to be a least 10cm above the surface), so perhaps higher ride height has been included.
2) Rally cars (most specifically WRC) all have or had VERY low power for a race car (back in 2010, they were normally capped at 270hp i think) and still could accelerate extremely fast while still bringing insane handling. Sure, the standards for the WRC are completely different from Nascar or Stock cars, but they are all very intense sports nonetheless, and you could DEFINITELY have a lot of fun in a low power car around a track.

From where I live, the biggest misconception about sports cars is that they're all fast (especially because many non-car people here think they're either Ferrari or Lamborghini).

I'm 6'5 and I own an FRS, people are constantly asking me how I can fit in it and it gets really annoying after a while. What's even more annoying is how people try to tell me I don't have a "real sports car" as if it's their place to do so. Sure, it's not exactly the fastest but it SLAYS on the twisties. People really do think that all out speed is more important than how a car handles.
