This Olds 350 engine...from 1968 to 1976 were the best engine. The Olds engines from 77 on, were weak engines. The 350's had Pontiac internals, and they had 3A heads on them. Case in point...I have an original 74 Cutlass Supreme with the 350 engine and it has #8 heads, and so did my 72 and my 76. I also have a 78 Delta 88
Royale with the 350 and IT has 3A heads. My 74 is rated @180hp, but my 78 is rated @170. I do not hot rod my cars under no circumstance. But just to see what the two cars would do, I had my brother to drive that Delta and I drove that Cutlass. Off the line, that Cutlass squealed the tires and jumped out front, and that Delta was atleast a half car length behind on take off. Both cars have 2.73 10 bolt rear ends and thm 350 trannys. But the Delta is a 5000lb car while the Cutlass is a 4000lb car, and both cars equally equipped. Then we swapped cars, and guess what, the same results. That Delta has ORIGINAL 14, 200 MILES on the odo, while that Cutlass has original 68434 on the odo. I am looking to YANK that engine out of my Delta and install a rebuilt 350, and the casting numbers will be 395558, which is what all my other Olds 350's were. I don't give a rats azz if they both give 2 miles per gallon, I will still drive them. I once had a brand new 69 Volkswagen Beetle and it used gas. I have had three new cars where the engines were computer controlled, and nothing but damn trouble, with the ecm's going south, very expensive to repair, electrical problems and shish falling off...hell on all of that shish. So I went back to my 70's Oldsmobiles, and you talk about a happy camper, that's me dad. BTW, I am 76 years young and as long as I have my two OLdsmobiles, the kid is satisfied, Good Day!
