As a 3-year-old this video helped me get a better grasp of mathematics and it's fundamentals for a little bit

WAIT OMG THIS WAS LITERALLY THE ONLY THING I ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND THIS WAS SO HELPFUL

As a 3 year old, I consider this absolutely helpful

thank you so much for your effort in making math more intuitive! bless your soul ❤

just say “it doesn’t matter if it’s positive or negative, the absolute value is always positive unless there’s a negative sign OUTSIDE the two lines”

Explained this to my 3 year old brother, found him tying himself to a rope

Absolute value - the distance the number is from zero. 5 steps to the left from zero and 5 steps to the right are still 5 steps away. Left/right or positive/negative dont matter. Also, maybe we let the 3 year old learn what negative number are. Why do so many of her videos make things MORE complicated? The ones that don't are just regurgitation of other creators' work

Just take the square of the number and the the square root.

Not always positive as zero isn’t positive. But, yeah, that’s a cute demonstration!

Wondered what absolute values was. But it just turned out to be modulus

Thanks, finally I could teach my son that |4-3i|=5, and thanks to you, he finally understood

I think it’s better to explain it by saying it’s the numbers distance from zero. Using metaphors like this can be confusing at times, but nevertheless, cool explanation

As a 1 year old asian I already knew this

Is it just me or it's easier if you take off the signs (-, +)

Can you teach us algebraic topology please 🙏 I will fail 2nd semester because I don’t understand functors and how they relate via homology

I sure could use some absolute values in my life right now...always coming out positive and stuff.

The + sign is extrinsic and is default on the mumerical value, So goes the convention. A negative push is a pull and a nagative pull is a push. Both semanticians and mathematicians would agree that 1 is a common component to -1 and +1. My opinion is that negative numbers came along with algebra. There are no negative apples or negative meters, nor even negative currencies, but you can have debts or assets . Zero in the middle. Also I have semantic problems equating /value/ with /operator/, so maybe the way it works with negative numbers as operators woluld require their own mathematical explanation.
