For those thinking this was a contradiction: He could change the future but not the past. When he went to the future he was that the morlock have overrun the planet but that's the future as it would happen with him absent from the timeline (he was in the time machine during the events that lead to that future.) Returning and killing the ubermorlock and blowing up the time machine reinserts him in the timeline and makes the future uncertain.

Saving his wife would create a universe in which the time machine itself was not invented yet it would have been required in order to save her life.

It is a not uncommon idea that a time machine, if one is ever made, can only be used to change events that occur after the time machine was made. This is usually because the most likely potential time machines can only move you between times during which the time machine actually exists.

It's also possible that he did cause the overrun future by killing the morlock's most intelligent leader and removing the only one that has any idea of sustainable resource management and ecological balance. - Reddit

Couldn't he go back in time, give himself the schematics to build the time machine prior to his wife's death and warn himself it must be built before her death.

Ok here's what I don't understand the force field around the time machine blew but not the machine it self so really it's probably still down there

I wish we could see it from a 3rd person more often, I loved seeing it come back from an onlooker's point of view!

In a way, I hope it gets remade again, loved this movie and yes I know it's remake, but yeah, like someone mentioned below the CG is a little dated but that's okay still, love this adaptation! I'm just a CGI/SciFi nerd so want to see it remade and readapted again.

Isn't the time machine itself such a marvel in design, love it, wish we could learn more about how it worked in the movie but not the main point of the story really

Two things I did not understand from the film. 1) the words spoken by the super genius morlock: "just as I am the inescapable result of you", as if somehow the existence of the morlock was the result of the time traveler and 2) how the destruction of the time machine would instantly erase the existence of all the morlock in current time...

This ending for the Time Machine 2002 was fucking atrocious why the fuck would he want to destroy the time machine and also the fact the fact he killed the Uber morlock was fucking stupid. Makes so no sence.
I love the new Look of the Mashine.
But I hate, that they altered the Story so super hard, beside the title and some "elements" this film has nothing to do with the original story and it`s intended message.
And this end is so typocal Holywood Bonkers stupid.
