How I retired to Mexico at 52 NO BULL

My wife and I were recently watching a series on Netflix called Money Explained. There was an episode in this series called Retirement explained. After watching this series it was a wake up call for me and I felt compelled to make this video. It was filled with some very interesting facts about retirement that I want to share these with you and share my experience of how I retired early and the reality we all face whether we retire early or retire at a later age.

This is video was not created to give advice rather, it was created to educate individuals of the reality we all face in retirement whether you decide to retire early or at a later age. I also, want to share my personal story on how I was fortunate enough to retire early at the age of 52 but did face some of the issues that I will point out in this video and never realized until I watched this series on Netflix. I also want to share with you why we chose Mexico as an alternative to retirement in the United States and never looked back, but it didn’t come without it’s challenges.

Social security will be long gone before I hit 65 years old. Figured I might as well move to Mexico and enjoy life while I can. Excellent video.

I embraced minimalism a couple of years ago. It is amazing how much one can save and invest when you stop buying material stuff you don’t really need. My retirement looks very promising, 4 years away. Thank you for the videos and inspiration. We are thinking about Mexico when I retire.

Man that's awesome we were just talking about this I'm 37 years old and told my wife I want to be done by 55. Watching these videos motivates us. Pretty much not trying to be part of the system until we die.

I have seen a bunch of retirement advice channels. I have to say that yours is the best. It covers so much with total honesty
During the Reagan era there was this huge marketing bs for business to shift the employee pension onto workers. Employees were told that they could grow rich in the stock market instead of relying on a small company pension. Soon, 401k became the norm. Most people have no idea what the stock market is. They believe ig they invest they will retire a millionaire. Meanwhile, financial planners are feeding us this million dollar number as a target to a successful retirement. Now everyone is stressed out. Everyone believes they have to work until 70. Many people drop dead before they reach 60 after working 40 years. As we age our health declines. It's ridiculous for many of us to work through our 60s and 70s.
My husband, a pipefitter, was diagnosed with lymphoma in his mid 40s. We lost him in 2020. He never got to retire. I retired at 62 after paying off our mortgages and other debts.
In all of these "you need a million dollars to retire" videos and sales pitches, paying off debt is rarely mentioned. A very small percentage if the workforce has anything close to 1 mil. Most barely crack a few hundred in retirement savings. Most are not healthy enought to work much past 60. I took ss at 62. With no debt and survivors benefits my monthly income now is greater that the low 40k jobs I was working. My health began to decline in my 50s and I notice a lot of age discrimination when searching for work. I don't blame employers. When the person interviewing you is 27, all they see is grandma and grandpaw struggling through the interview using jargon they don't understand
I will be taking my 2nd trip to Mexico next month. It's a beautiful country and not full of all the healthcare system bs and consumerism of the US. All the best to you and your wife and thank you for a great channel

We also retired to Mexico (at 58yrs old) and lived in SMA briefly. We moved to Morelia and found it so much more affordable for us and our long term financial health. Plus we just love Morelia!

Enjoyed this video for its content and the fact that you are older and still working. Many of the videos put out, although informative, are produced by younger people or financially set retirees. Many of us do not fit into those categories. I enjoy what I do and have no plans for total retirement. I am 71 and have my own small businesss in Santa Fe. I am going to take trips starting this year to explore places that I might want to live in a few years. I am starting with San Miguel in April.

Great video and very inspirational. I also have a youtube channel. May I offer a few suggestions? This video is very well edited. It's a tight story. I would use a little less cross dissolves to avoid the ghost transitions. The audio quality is very good. Is that the rode wireless mic? Also a few graphics on the stats would have ben really helpful. Best of luck to you Sir. I look forward to your future videos.

Hi great video I subbed! Thinking of moving to Mexico...however we are not retired my husband works online and can really work from anywhere. It would make financial sense to move over there and I believe our stress levels would also benefit. We would be out of the rat race and have more time to spend together as a family instead of always work work work...

Thanks so much for your video. Lots of "real data" which is hard to find on web sites. I too am looking at retiring in about 4-5 years, that will give me 30 years of service in the armed forces. Mexico is top of our list. Lots of research to to, your words really help the process. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦 !

I just came across the channel and this was a great video. I'm already pushing 70 (will be there near the end of December this year) and I worked until I was 67. Years of spousal support will do that to a guy. ;)
Anyhow being as my second wife is from the Philippines that's likely going to be our retirement destination. We bought a small condo in a resort type setting with very nice amenities that's just about ready for turn over, and we're going over for 3 months this winter, ... and possibly for good around the end of November 2022.
Vancouver winters are wet and cool so relaxing full time in a tropical country should be nice. Mexico is a place I would have considered if my situation was a bit different.

Great advice. I am looking at all my options and you said on very important thing that many people forget, that the cost of living is not the most important thing. You have to love the area and adapt to the culture. That is why is want to explore are reexplore different cities that I visited when I was younger. I have family in Mexico and they are very helpful. Sorry for rambling. Thanks and I will continue to watch your videos and subscribe.

Thank you for your video and information. I had a chuckle within one min of the video I said this guy is either Retired Miltary or Law Enforcement "BINGO". This weekend I wrote up my release memo from Canadian Forces, now just figuring my release date either July 2022 or January 2023. I joined the forces 1992 so my pension will be 60%, however I will be calling pension center on Tuesday for an estimate. I am single never married and no children. I think my pension would be around $45, 000 US Funds. Also my current house after selling my assets $550, 000 US. I will be turning a fit 50 yrs old male this October I am fortunate due to being in the combat arms trade with a number of deployments. I told myself it's about myself now while I have my health. Sorry for lengthy msg but your vidoe made me think that I am on the right track. I am just breaking it down into 3 phases, take my time and enjoy my next adventure. Thank you from your Canadian friend.

Mexico is also very much cheaper if you live off the beaten track and out of the touristy places and can live more like a local as we do.
