Dear All The American Association Endodontists categorised tooth fracture into 5 categories.1) Craze Lines- Confined to enamel 2) Cuspal Fractures- usually diagonal fractures that do not involve the pulp directly 3)Cracked teeth- incomplete vertical fractures, often involving the pulp. 4)Spilt tooth-, Complete Vertical fracture 5) Vertical root fractures. Cracked tooth syndrome is also called as split root syndrome, hairline fracture and tooth infarction. Although the Presentation of Vertical Root Fracture can present with a similar presentation of incomplete fracture. The origin, initiation of the fracture is necessary for proper diagnosis. Please consider the higher incidence of Cracked tooth syndrome associated with Mandibular Second molars instead of Vertical Root fracture in the asked question. In coming days I will be presenting separately on Cracked tooth syndrome and Vertical Root fracture in details.
