Personal head cannon? It is Zeus. His daughter needed to teach some mortals a lesson, so she asked Zeus to turn into a pig and him being Zeus, he just went “Yah, sure, I can do that”. Wouldn’t be at all surprised if Zeus swallowed some lightning bolts, turned into a boar, and spat them at people for fun.

The most plausible explanation is that it was originally just a normal boar that Artemis mutated. Which is pretty terrifying now that I think about it.

I think it's some sort of Wonder Woman scenario. After the city failed to please Artemis, she went to her father and requested her make her some sort of thing to punish the city. Zeus creates the boar out of clay, makes it come to life and gives it to Artemis. That explains why it shoots lightning from its mouth. Or maybe I just read too many comic books, idk

It actually presents itself many times in Greek mithology, it is always described as an angry and very strong beast that will hunt anything it crosses. Usually tho it is made as an enemy for the "hero" of that same story
