I always played the Binding of Isaac and never realised the “Spindown Dice” was an actual thing in real life.

A randomizing function range isn't disadvantaged because the domain is ordered.
Rolling a spin down die will still yield a random number.

As an MTG player I immediately spotted the spin down.

You said "Spindown" and attracted every Isaac player in a 20 KM radius. Good job.

Well, with rolling, the arrangement isnt as big of a problem. Random face is still a random face, regardless of relative placement to other numbers. Its more to do with a dice being balanced and weighted properly. Count-downs often arent, as they are often only used as counters

I'm an Isaac player and I did not know that a spindown die (-1) was a real thing

Now I understand the Spindown from TBoI. You literally just roll the Item ID down one.

Remember, one changes things on the floor, and the other you should ONLY use on tooth picks

I remember, as a kid, I didn't know the difference for these two dice and just bought a big fist-sized spin-down D20 because I thought it was hilarious.
Going to my very first D&D game and rolling for hits with this did not bode well for brownie points with the DM.
Fortunately for me, it was a one-off affair with a some random people and I haven't tried playing since then (not that I had a bad experience or anything, I just shifted my focus onto other things).

In theory the spin down is exactly as random as the standard

Woah didn't realize I was using a spindown one this whole time, I just found all my dice in the closet and thought it'd be cool to get into D&D

As a Magic player my family has always used d6 for tracking things, you can get small d6 in bulk sets that store conveniently and they aren’t as likely to roll over if the table gets bumped(or a fist slammed down on it after being Lock Decked for the fifth time in a row). We tend to use a lot of d6 since there are many cards which spawn token creatures and they’re rarely ever above 6/6 anyways

A spin-down die, typically used for Magic the Gathering to track hp, and a fair die, typically used for TTRPGs. The fair die has high and low numbers spread evenly around the whole die, while the Spin-down die has a higher concentration of higher numbers in one spot.
