Can HBOT Cause A Herxheimer Reaction?

One reason you may feel worse after Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is because the increase in your immune system’s capacity to fight infection. This can cause a die off reaction known as a Herxheimer (HERX) reaction.

To avoid this, we take patients through a slower transition in therapy by not increasing the frequency, pressure, or duration too quickly.

If we go slowly and thoughtfully, we can help the patient transition through a series of treatments, improving their immune system function, reducing their microbial load, and ultimately improving their health over time.
