Okay, before anyone comments on this, I want to say, people are DIE HARD fans for this book. I watched some review videos after finishing and one girl got ATTACKED for not liking it. It almost made me not want to post this. But after watching the reviews, I totally get why people love this. It does have amazing character building and, like I say at the end, I am emotionally connected to these characters. Everything I slogged through made sense as to why it was included and what it built upon for each character. Brandon Sanderson is a good author. It was just long. And took me forever to get into. And my personal reading experience is what I am talking about. I’m not a fan of war and a lot of battle scenes, so personally I had trouble getting into it. I hope you can respect my opinions. Thanks for watching :)

UPDATE: It’s been about 4 hours since I finished this book and now I want to give it 4 stars? And I like it even more now that I think about it? I’m so confused. I’m going onto Amazon and ordering book two now…

ANOTHER UPDATE: I ordered book two. I need to know what happens!!!

It’s so strange how people perceive this book so differently. I personally fell in love from page 1.

You should check out Murphy Napier. She mostly reads fantasy but she reads a lot of other genres. she recently finished a Jane Austen binge and I think you would like her channel.

The slow burn makes the book so much more exciting for me! I loved getting know about all the characters and the world it revolved around. And honestly, fell in love with Kaladin from the beginning! I’m relate to him pretty hard in the sense that I also struggle with depression and completely understood where he was coming from emotionally!

But yes, the ending of the book was actually explosive for me! I was just SHOCKED at the big reveal in a very positive way :)

Did you ever get around to reading the second book?

I totally get where you are coming from. The Way of Kings, a book that I learned to love in the end, was the fieat high fantasy I ever read and it is definitely comes with a learning curve (especially when you are used to to pacing and plot of romance). I had a hard time getting into it and the exposition felt SO LONG. Sanderson focuses so much on world building and character development that it can be a bit daunting. Although, in the end, I learned to love it.

My husband LOVES high/epic fantasy and he read all of the books that are out so far in like 5 days. He absolutely loves this series. It's one of my reading goals to finally read this book to see what all the hype is about, but I'm like you, I start to read it and I get bored and distracted and would rather do something else. Maybe if I try it as an audiobook?

The Way of Kings is my favorite book ever, I’m both nervous and excited to watch this video. 😂

Edit: I love the last five mins of the video, that’s the reaction that many people have to this book. This book is literally 1, 000 pages of set up, which is really common in epic fantasy series. By the end Sanderson leaves you like 😧 wanting to know what happens to these characters next. I can say for sure that the second book is faster, we get into the characters goals and motivations much sooner, the politics are more high risk, and the characters plot lines start to weave together.

Wow!! I am scared to even start this book. This has been on my TBR for some time now. I loved your reaction at the end of the book. It was hilarious!!🤣🤣🤣

Omg! You picked a master piece!! It’s worth the wait. My advice here is don’t force to read the book. I have read this boom 5 times and the first one is so crucial to the series. If you don’t like it just drop it. And if you happen to find time then read it again.

If you are looking for any fantasy booktubers, Merphy Napier is great. She also reads other genres as well. Murphy is one of my favorite booktubers and I think you might like her.

Just started the video but just so you know, I'm not really a romance reader and I still love your videos! 😊💗 Just really enjoy your content and your personality!

Your video really helped me... though not in a way you might think.

I own the hardcovers of the series, and there's one small problem: the font used for the title (on the cover and spine) changes after book two, as does the orientation of the title text on the spine (vertical from horizontal), which is... irritating would probably be an understatement. HOWEVER, the trade paperback editions have the title's font on the cover and spine be consistent with books three and four.

At least... that's what I've assumed. I wasn't completely sure that The Way of Kings had been updated (as I had seen images where Words of Radiance (book two) had the updated font but book one didn't), so I've been scouring the internet for a (recent, as the update with book one only happened in the last six to eight months or so) video review where the reviewer showed the spine of the trade paperback, released in the last 6-8 months. And what do you know, I found this video, and more specifically 12:19, where you twist the book in just the right way that I can see the spine.

I don't think this comment is one you expected, but thank you for making this video. It was a real help to me.

I dont typically read fantasy either. I just finished reading tonight. Its a slow burn FOR SURE! The first five hundr3d pages were just building. The last 500 pages were really quite exciting and really grabbed me.

I was hooked from the first line to the last with this one. It's in my top 10 of greatest novels I've ever read, and while I do read fantasy from time to time, I do not read it too often. Mostly classic literature and adult contemporary. However, out of the hundreds of books I've read, I've only found a few romance books I seriously enjoyed. Eleanor and Park, The Fault in Our Stars, and Gone with the Wind. There are others, but those three have always stuck out to me.

I think some people can just be so far to the extreme in one direction, with what they like, that it's very difficult for them to discern the inherent quality in other types of books. Either that or their emotional needs are very specific to the point that they will stick with the genre that fulfills it. The latter might be the reason for the former in a lot of cases. This is probably why, sometimes, certain people's views on something can be very different from almost everyone else's.

I consider The Way of Kings to be a genuine masterpiece of modern fantasy. One which stands with the very best of the best, and even surpasses most of them.

"It wasn't bad, it was just boring and slow" hahaha I love it. Don't feel bad for not liking something that someone else likes.

I didn't think it was slow and boring. I was addicted. I love big stories with lots of POVs. Stormlight Archives has less POVs then ASOIAF, and less sub-plots

Fantasy is really my genre. That is the majority of my book collection. You go girl for making it to the end! I have this on my TBR I haven’t read anything by Sanderson yet so I’m interested to see what my feelings are going to be.
