I've seen these in the mountains of North Carolina. We call them Wolf rats.
First one I ever saw. I was 9 years old and I shot it with a 410 .... I thought it was a beaver. My granddaddy told me what it was when the dog brought it out of the water...he said "theys pretty rare here, but you'll see em from time to time."
Then he goes on to tell me a story about my great grandma attacking one with a broom and it turned around and took the broom from her and chased my great grandma with the broom.
Now, I know that story is not true....but at the time I believed him.
Plus if you know anything about old Apalacha folks.... They tend to build their stories pretty tall😂😂😂
