The air between the candle and the cup would become extremely hot because the cup would capture the heat from the candle's flame. The candle would burn down quicker this way. How would adjustments for time settings work? 🤔

When a candle has to be started from nothing, the wick has to be adhered to the wax. Whereas with a partial candle, just try a knot and pour wax over it. So, a candle burning completely down, besides a fire hazard, was also more expensive to replace.

The ancients??? A brass cup but a steel (very fine!) needle? A candle? Imagine some ancient guy making this stand just to save his candles. If an ”ancient” could afford candles he can afford the little losses. Or his servants would put them out. Of course an ”ancient” would have had a lamp not a candle. Beeswax candles were way after the ancients. There are so many dumb things here…😂

If you are awake and need light, you leave the candle burning. If you no longer need light. You put it out. Why have something put it out later when you're not around needing the light?

That is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. All you have to do is put the candle in a container full of water. The candle will only burn down to the water level. Congratulations. You won't burn to death now.
